The streets of NYC are hushed, blanketed, pristine and personal. Outside, the snow is chaotic, pelting the face as you step onto a sidewalk that has no end. No traffic, only the sound of the wind, snow plows and shovels. People walking in the middle of the road, an easy camaraderie. Inside, a pot of steaming, spiced chocolate on the stove. Shot of bourbon optional.
Ingredients:
1 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate (70% cocoa or darker)
2 tbsp. drinking chocolate powder
1 tbsp. heavy cream
3 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. sugar
pinch of cayenne pepper
pinch of salt
pinch of nutmeg
mint leaves
Preparation:
- Break the baking chocolate into small pieces.
- Combine all ingredients other than mint leaves. Cook over low-medium heat for 10-15 minutes till melted and smooth.
- Pour into a coffee mug. Serve garnished with mint leaves, an additional sprinkle of chocolate powder and cayenne if you dare. Drink while steaming hot.
